AAARRRGGGHHH

I have been working on this @)(#*$)#&)(*#%)(&#@$)*@#)(8 purse pattern since 2000. I started and unraveled it half a dozen times in 2000, threw it in a box and tried to forget about it for a few years, but still it haunts me. I was recently reinspired to take another whack at it, and after working on it for 2 weeks, unraveling it no less than what seems like a zillion times, I finally got the hang of it. Then I got the Flu and spent a week in bed, too sick to even try working on it.
Tonight I picked it up and tried to pick up where I left off (about 1/2″ up the sides) and it just. wasn’t. working. In a fit of frustration, I’m now back down to the base of it, and it’s just not WORKING. ARGH!!! From all the websites, books and diagrams I’ve seen, I’m doing the basic stitch correctly, but the seam, turning and shaping of it is Not Going Well. On top of that, it seems to take forever to get anything done and it’s giving me blisters.
Anyone want a gently used tube of silver/gray Omega Crochet Nylon? I may even have another one still in its wrapper somewhere.

I do have to say that the seam and turning was the most difficult part for me to learn when making purses. I connect the row with a slip stitch (for the seam) and then turn, and crochet the next row, I don’t add a single chain (which I believe some patterns say to do…the slip stitch works for me if I’ve completed EVERY single crochet in the row). Don’t despair! I unraveled the first one three times (once all the way to the base as well) and I still stitched the whole darn thing with the wrong stitch! :) You can do it! ;)

ARGH! I just ordered some of that nylon to try one of the purses too. I hope that I don’t have the trouble you’re having, Trina. I’ll keep you posted.
I have the advantage of having crocheted for years, however, so if I learn anything I think is helpful, I’ll let you know.
Nice to see the new posts. I’ve just been out of touch for a bit here at Dianes’s.
