Aging
Strom Thurmond died today, and I came across this page of factoids about him. Things like he was 17 when women were granted the right to vote, he’s been alive for 18 of the 43 presidents’ terms, and he was elected governor of South Carolina at 44, the year our past two presidents were born and around the same time my parents were born. Strangely enough, his children were borh in the 70s, not the 20s or 30s, like one might expect. Now, I’m not usually a politics buff, but he’s had an interesting life and political career.
So while I was reading about him, I got to thinking about the fact that my parents are the same age as our president, and one day I will be the same age as our president. But in my mind, the president is an old guy I have very little in common with and don’t know much about. Granted, I probably won’t ever have much in common with a US president, but it’s weird (to me, at least) to be getting closer in age to the president. It’s also weird to me to think that people my age are Real, Actual Adults, and I’m supposed to be one, too; that people my age who I went to school with are becoming doctors and having kids and have careers not just jobs.
Maybe this doesn’t make any sense at all and I should start thinking of things to post in the morning, not just before bed.

What is this? A pre-mid-life crisis?

I know your pain Trina. Anytime I go to a ballgame when a 20 year old rookie comes up to bat or when I hear how old the members of a new best selling band are, I cringe.
These people have gone out and done something amazing and I am bartending and putting stupid posts up on a webpage

Oh, and there is the quarter-life crisis, Diane.
The stage where you question your friends behaviours and wonder if you should be doing something more with your life.

I don’t think I’ve reached “crisis” proportions. Yet.
*jealous*
And yes, Tim. We share our pain. However, being a bartender is way cool
