She's crafty…

I get around. The world of crafts, that is. I’ve never met a craft I didn’t at least want to dabble in, and there are very few I didn’t take up for at least a week. My mainstays recently have been knitting and sewing/quilting, but I’ve been known to tat, bead, scrapbook, crochet, woodwork, photograph, and others I’m sure I’ve forgotten.

Something about having 2 small children makes scratching my crafting itch happen a lot less than I’d like. One thing that I’ve managed to keep up since I started eek, 5 years ago? is a monthly quilting group at a local quilt store (LQS). The first Saturday of every month there is a Large Gathering in the old Opera House. Starting in February of every year, for $5, you can buy a kit for a single block of a quilt. Finish that block before the First Saturday of March and bring it to the next large gathering, and March’s block is free. Should you manage to do that every month, it is possible to get 12 blocks, enough for a decent size quilt, for $5. I know I managed to get a $5 quilt at least one year…

This morning was the last First Saturday of 2008 (yes, off by a month, but it just works out that way), and Amy and I braved the cold and wind to fetch our blocks. For the 4th time this year, I forked over my $5 and brought home the 12th bag of fabric scraps destined for a pink and red log cabin quilt.

2009′s First Saturday block starts next month, and I’m determined to do every block on time this go-around! I wonder if WordPress has some widget I could use to keep track of that…

In other crafty endeavors, I’m working on another sewing project or two, but this is the only hint I’m going to give tonight.

I think I bought at least 6 of them….do you think it’s more? I hope not! I’m going to gather all my blocks left and cut them out in one day…sew them in another. Hoping it can happen this month!
In case your project is the one to which I have the pattern…I won’t say what it is…but I’m still looking for it. I think I know which box Hubs put my sewing stuff in – grrrrr!
