Will wonders never cease?
I was awoken and continue to be awake at this late hour by the recent rash of lightening going through the area. We had a tremendous storm last week, dumping 2″ of rain and really LOUD thunder and lightening within a mile of us. The thunder didn’t keep me awake so much as the random flashes of light illuminating the entire house and the freaked out cats that scampered every which way with every clap of thunder. Maybe this will bring the temperatures down out of the 100s. Keep in mind this is the Central Valley of CA. We don’t get thunder and lightening in the “stormy” season, much less these thunderstorm things. I’ve seen more lightening in OK and MD in the amassed weeks I’ve spent there than in the years I’ve lived here.
Now for the wondrous events:
1. The aforementioned lightening. It has and probably always will amaze me. Cool stuff. Kinda creepy sometimes, but I usually get over it. I’m not one of those people who thinks it’s crazy-cool and absolutely loves it and seeks it out or anything. I do quite nicely without it, in fact. But it’s still cool.
2. My sister has moved out. She found an apartment in North Pasadena that she’s sharing with a friend of hers as she applies to Long Beach State (man, I wouldn’t want that commute). Will Phil be next? ![]()
3. My youngest brother is starting High School. Next week. Wow.
4. It’s 1am and it’s 85 outside. Major suckage.
5. I have decided to take a class or two at the local community college. And I thought I was done. Going to school for so long sure makes one picky about school supplies.
6. I can read honest to goodness books on my Palm V. Thanks, Jocelyn.
7. I’ve reserved tickets (finally) for our trip to Maryland at the end of September.
8. I now skin-test positive for TB. *hack*cough*
9. I do remember to update this every once in a while.

Thunderstorms kick ass. I still want to see a tornado before I die. Most people tell me that it’s a good possibility.
I also test positive for TB. Have for about 15 years. I probably should have a chest x-ray soon. That’s the only way they can test me now.

I thought about taking some tech classes at my local community college, to get out of this dead-end techie job I’m in now. Two weeks ago I emailed the recommended person to ask about three courses. Today I got a reply, that one of the three they’re not offering, and the head of the department is this other guy, so I should email him if I want info. WTF?
We’ve been alternating between loud thunderstorms and sweltering heat all day. But I live near “tornado alley”, so for me it’s part of the seasonal change.

Tim:
They also don’t seem to have caught up with the whole “Technology Revolution” and they really like to sit down with their students and have heart-to-heart conversations about your life’s goals and financial situation. Ugh. I sign up early, take my units and ignore as much of the admin BS I can. I’m sure there are a lot of people who need their hand held like that, but I ain’t one of ‘em.
Yeah. I had the test on Thursday and was supposed to go into the clinic on Sunday to “have it read real quick.” I ended up being sent to the hospital and spent the afternoon wading through the process of getting x-rays. Fun stuff. I guess if I was turberculoid, they’d've called. I guess this also means I get to look forward to a lifetime of chest x-rays.
And how is it that I’ve seen a few tornados (from afar, grant you) and I live in CA, while you live in Tornado Alley and have yet to see one? I think you need to get out more, Tim
Maddy:
Yeah, community colleges really aren’t “geared” toward that level of customer service. I think they just expect you to show up and not ask too many of those Hard Questions about silly admin stuff

I’m not in tornado alley like Maddy, but we get warnings and watches enough that… when you get one, and they say seek interior spaces, you move three feet from the window.
All the joys of the Midwest, sans Cold White Stuff.
But you’re having typical hot and humid weather patterns – where it storms each night.
I don’t really have anything else to say, but I’m trying not to do work.

Without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods.
